Menahem Pressler, the longtime pianist of the former Beaux Arts Trio, will mark his 90th year, and the American String Quartet its 40th anniversary, in performances in Virginia Commonwealth University’s Rennolds Chamber Concerts in the coming season.
The 2013-14 Rennolds roster also includes recitals by cellist Alisa Weilerstein and pianist Joyce Yang, a trio performance by violinist Pamela Frank, violist Nobuku Imai and cellist Clemens Hagen, and a performance by the Escher String Quartet with classical guitarist Jason Vieaux.
Pressler’s 90th-anniversary tour features the pianist performing with the New York Chamber Soloists, a 12-member ensemble of strings and winds. The American String Quartet will be joined by the brothers Roberto Díaz, a violist and president of Philadelphia’s Curtis Institute of Music, and Andres Díaz, a cellist.
All concerts will begin at 8 p.m. in Vlahcevic Concert Hall of VCU’s Singleton Arts Center, Park Avenue at Harrison Street in Richmond’s Fan District.
Subscriptions for the six-concert series are $135, or $90 for three concerts, with valet parking included. Adult single-ticket prices are $34 per concert. Discounts are available for seniors (60 and older) and VCU employees.
