Tuesday Evening Concerts 2009-10
The Takacs String Quartet will perform on Oct. 13 at the University of Virginia, opening the 2009-10 season of Charlottesville’s Tuesday Evening Concert Series. The Takacs’ program includes works of Beethoven and Schumann.
Other artists, all performing at 8 p.m. in U.Va.’s Old Cabell Hall, include:
* Cellist Amit Peled with pianist Eli Kalman in Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff, Oct. 27.
* The Pavel Haas Quartet playing Haydn, Ravel and Dvořák, Nov. 17.
* The Europa Galante Chamber Orchestra playing Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons" with its music director, Fabio Biondi, as solo violinist, as well as works by Telemann and Sammartini, Jan. 26.
* Mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kozena and pianist Yefim Bronfman in art-songs by Schumann, Ravel, Rachmaninoff and Bartók, Feb. 23.
* Pianist Christian Zacharias playing works to be announced, March 16.
* The Venice Baroque Orchestra playing Albinoni, Vivaldi and Geminiani, April 27.
The series will offer schools and school groups free concerts by cellist Peled and the Venice Baroque Orchestra during their visits.
